Premature ejaculation (PE) and Erectile Dysfunction (ED) are two common sexual health issues in men that doctors directly correlate to overall health. But, the good news is that if you are suffering from either of the two issues, you don’t need to rely only on what treatment doctors prescribe like expensive medications or extensive and complicated therapies, exercises can also be the best option. [1]

This blog focuses on Kegel and yoga exercises that are proven to help treat premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunction. Before jumping straight onto them, let’s learn about their basics.

What is Premature Ejaculation?

Premature ejaculation is a quite common sexual dysfunction issue wherein men experience an uncontrollable and undesirable release of semen out of their penis just before or soon at the beginning of sexual intercourse. For some men, it may happen throughout life whenever they have sex while for others it may happen after episodes of experiencing normal ejaculation.

This problem is diagnosed if the following criteria are met:

PE happening persistently and frequently for about 6 months

Ejaculation occurring unintentionally with little to no penis stimulation

Minimal or no control of ejaculatory reflexes.

There could be several reasons behind PE such as stress, performance anxiety, depression, guilt, sexual repression, poor body image problems, hormonal imbalance, and abnormal neurotransmitter levels. PE is not considered a medical condition, however, it can have ill effects on sexual self-confidence and relationships that the sufferer has with his sex partner. However, there are ways to control and manage premature ejaculation including behavioral techniques, medications, and counseling. [1, 2]

What is Erectile Dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction is an inability faced by men to achieve and maintain their erect penis and satisfactorily engage themselves in sexual intercourse. It has been estimated that 1 in 3 men can experience some form of ED at some point in their lives and the prevalence of this condition increases with age.

There are many causes for erectile dysfunction including blood flow issues, psychological problems, hormonal fluctuations, and nerve damage. However, it can be treated with oral medications like Via-gra or more, Alpr-ostadil self-injection, Alpro-stadil urethral suppository, and testosterone replacement. If medications don’t work out, penile pumps or implants may be used. Recently, studies have shown that erectile dysfunction symptoms can also be improved with moderate to vigorous aerobic exercises. [1, 4]

Kegel Exercises to Help Tackle Erectile Dysfunction and Premature Ejaculation

Kegel exercises are specifically designed for the workout of the pelvic area to strengthen the core and pelvic floor muscles (particularly the bulbocavernosus and ischiocavernosus muscles). These muscles can be spotted by men during their urination. While trying to stop and start the urine stream multiple times, the muscles that feel tight behind the groin are the pelvic floor muscles. The strong pelvic floor muscles are important as it does three jobs: it allows the penis to be engorged with blood and obtain and maintain an erection, it pumps during ejaculation, and it helps complete urine to pass through the urethra.

Kegel exercises are easy to perform and do not require the use of any specialized equipment. Basically, these involve squeezing the pelvic floor muscles, holding them for 5 seconds, and then relaxing them. Men can do these exercises in 3-5 sets with 10-20 repetitions per set regularly to help delay premature ejaculation and improve control of sexual climax. Most men can start to enjoy the benefits of Kegel exercises after about a month of daily exercise. However, if any time such exercises are causing pain or discomfort, stop them immediately and seek medical help. [1, 2, 4]

Here are the 3 Kegel exercises that aim to strengthen pelvic floor muscles:

1.The Floor Lying on the Back Squeezes

The steps involved are:

Lie on your back on the flat surface of the floor with knees bent comfortably and pointing upwards and hands flat on the floor.

Next, try to draw the penis towards the body and hold it inwards for 5 seconds, then release it.

Now, squeeze your anus muscles and hold for another 5 seconds, then let go and relax the muscles.

Repeat the above-mentioned steps and complete 3-5 Kegel exercise sets in a day. [1]

2.The Floor Lying on the Side Squeezes

The steps involved are:

Lie on the floor facing sideways.

Place a large pillow between your knees so as to spread your legs apart.

Then, squeeze both legs together and hold it for 5 seconds with a subsequent release.

Repeat. [1]

3.Sitting in a Chair Squeezes

The steps involved are:

Sit in a chair in a comfortable position.

Squeeze your penile muscles as if you are trying to stop urine from being passed out of the penis, hold this for 5 seconds, and then release it.

Repeat. [1]

While performing any of the Kegel exercises, it is important to follow certain tips:

Do not hold your breath.

Throughout the exercises, try to keep the stomach muscles relaxed.

Tightly squeeze the pelvic muscles together as if you are trying to lift something with them instead of pushing down those muscles.

Between each squeeze, do relax the pelvic floor muscles.

Yoga Exercises to Address Premature Ejaculation and Erectile Dysfunction

Yoga is a well-established approach to help to deal with a variety of psychological and physical issues related to premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunction. Some yogic asanas can help improve sexual performance in men by strengthening their pelvic floor muscles, boosting stamina, improving their strength and sex power, improving their focus on sex and sex drive, and elevating their energy levels.

Here are some yoga poses that men can try to help combat PE and ED:

Dhanurasana (Bow Pose)

Ashwini Mudra (Horse Stance)

Matyasana (Fish Pose)

Paschimottanasana (Seated Forward Bend)

Mayurasana (Peacock Pose)

Kapalbhati (Skull Shining Breathing Technique)

Sarvanga Asana (Shoulder Stand)

Supine Head knee posture

Khandasana. [1, 2]

Along with an Exercise Regime Even Try Out Men’s Health Supplements to Improve Sexual Performance!

A normal sexual response cycle involves four distinct steps: Sexual desire (libido), Sexual arousal (excitement), Sexual orgasm (pleasure), and Resolution. Men experience orgasm after sexual arousal and sexual activity. Typically, a male’s orgasm is about the ejaculation of semen through strong muscle contractions of the penis and perineum. The male climax might seem simple but it is a complex process. It occurs through a series of steps involving a combination of hormones, organs, blood vessels, and nerve transmissions. However, some men can experience difficulties in reaching orgasm, mostly stemming from interruption of emotional or physical processes. [1, 2]

Understanding the male orgasm

Primarily, testosterone is engaged in stimulating sexual desires (or libido) which is the key to commencing the process resulting in orgasms in males. Testosterone is a male sex hormone synthesized in a balanced supply by the testicles. The testicles even produce millions of sperms every day that gets mature and mixed with protein-rich, whitish fluids- collectively known as semen. Semen nourishes and supports sperms so that even after ejaculation they can survive for some time. At the time of male orgasm, the semen is moved through the urethra and out of the penis. Males feel the orgasm starting just before the semen first discharges and lasting till the ultimate semen is ejaculated. [1, 2]

What Happens at the Time of Male Orgasm?

There are two phases in which male orgasm takes place, emission and ejaculation. The emission stage is where men reach a “point of no return” called ejaculatory inevitability. In this phase, the semen settles at the top portion of the urethra and is ready to be squirted out of the penis. The next phase is ejaculation which happens in a series of rapid-fire contractions of the muscles of the penis and around the base of the anus. At this time, men might also experience involuntary pelvic thrusting. The nerves that signal muscle contractions now transmit messages of pleasure to the brain of men. [1]

The Problems Associated with Male Orgasm

Orgasmic disorder, Anorgasmia, or Coughlan’s syndrome is one such concern wherein an individual is not able to experience sexual pleasure even after having sexual stimulations. It is of two types: Primary and Secondary. In the former type of Anorgasmia, a person has never experienced orgasm throughout their life because of any interruption in the normal sexual process. Often, it is accompanied by other sexual dysfunctions such as premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction, or low libido. Secondary or situational anorgasmia is when a person can feel orgasm only at certain times like while having oral sex or masturbation. The situation when people reach orgasm differs from one person to another. Psychological factors can often result in this condition and no other sexual function abnormalities. [1]

Reasons Behind Orgasm Problems in Men

Male orgasm can get affected by several things, often due to ejaculation problems, but that’s not always. The causes of male orgasm issues include:

Delayed Ejaculation- It is a type of ejaculatory dysfunction characterized by too slow the release of semen out of the penis, long after sexual stimulation. This can occur due to medications, excessive drinking of alcohol, hypertension, sexual performance anxiety, hormonal imbalances, diuretics, and even low self-esteem in men.

Premature Ejaculation- It is a condition where men experience too early or quick spurting out of semen from their penis before or very soon after their penis penetration. Various factors such as hormone levels, low sexual arousal, performance anxiety, and penile sensitivity can result in this ejaculatory dysfunction.

Retrograde Ejaculation- It is also called dry ejaculation when there is no semen production and retrograde ejaculation is when a small amount of the ejaculation goes backward into the bladder instead of coming out of the penis during the male climax. However, the semen eventually comes out of the body during urination. This condition is often caused by the malfunctioning of the bladder neck muscle.

Impotence or Erectile Dysfunction- It is a condition where men experience difficulty in getting and keeping a penile erection even after enough sexual activity. Many factors can cause this problem including stress, performance anxiety, depression, lack of stimulus from the brain, vascular disease, neurological disorders (such as multiple sclerosis), and injury/trauma.

Anejaculation- It is a kind of ejaculatory dysfunction where some men may take an abnormally long time to ejaculate while other males reach orgasm without semen ejaculation. This disorder has various causative factors such as aging, hormonal abnormalities, medications (especially antidepressants like SSRIs- Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors), psychological problems, diabetes, blocked semen ducts, neurological diseases, and even certain surgeries like testicular and prostate cancer surgeries. [3, 4]

What are the Standard Measures to Treat Orgasm Problems in Men?

There is no one-step solution for anorgasmia or orgasmic disorder as each man is different and the causes differ from one person to another. Therefore, it’s recommended to consult a doctor regarding the orgasm problem without embarrassment as the doctor can help provide quick and appropriate treatment. As per the diagnosis of the male sexual condition and the identified cause of the male patient experiencing orgasm problem, the doctor might ask for certain lifestyle modifications or prescribe medications.

Some Options to Treat Male Orgasm Problems include:

Testosterone replacement therapy

Psychotherapy, physical therapy, and certain hormonal medications to treat premature or delayed ejaculation

Couple therapies for couples having relationship issues affecting their sexual lives

Therapy sessions for men who are having psychological issues such as anxiety, depression, or stress

Therapies and counseling sessions to remove fears or false beliefs around sexual topics

Sexual therapies involving yoga and mindfulness strategies

Use of prescribed drugs such as dopamine and oxytocin antagonists to treat hormonal imbalances and promote orgasm. [2, 4]

Orgasm problems where there is reduced semen production or perceived ejaculate volume reduction (PEVR) can be treated by increasing semen production and sperm/ejaculation volume through the following measures:

Not having sexual intercourse or masturbation for a few days at a time

Delaying ejaculation at the time of the sex

Avoiding smoking- It has been found that smokers produce low-quality sperms as compared to the non-smokers

Getting a proper night’s sleep

Indulging in routine moderate-level of exercises

Taking supplements with antioxidant properties [3, 4]

ORDER NOW!

Males experiencing orgasm problems can now order Cilexin and Prostate Plus, the amazing and safe products that can help males to improve their sexual life.

References:

https://www.everydayhealth.com/sexual-health/the-male-orgasm.aspx

https://www.icliniq.com/articles/sexual-health/orgasmic-disorders-in-males

https://www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/sexual-health/what-can-cause-orgasm-problems-in-men/

https://prioritymensmedical.com/blog/ejaculation-problems-ejaculatory-dysfunctions-disorders/

Ejaculation is the natural response of the male body at the time of sexual climax wherein the semen is expelled out of the penis. Premature ejaculation (PE) is when ejaculation happens before the man or his partner would want it during sexual intercourse. It is a commonly occurring sexual disorder in men, also referred to as premature climax, rapid ejaculation, or early ejaculation. It can happen at any age. [1]

Premature ejaculation is not a worrisome concern but can be frustrating, make sex less enjoyable, and impact healthy physical relationships. However, the healthcare provider can surely help if the condition happens more often and causes other serious health problems. There are different treatments, including home remedies and medications that can help delay ejaculation.

Premature Ejaculation can be Classified in Two Ways:

Primary or lifelong premature ejaculation- When the condition prevails during all or nearly all sexual encounters in one’s life.
Secondary or acquired premature ejaculation- When the condition is noticed after having sexual episodes without ejaculatory problems. [1,2]

Causes of Premature Ejaculation

To date, there is hardly any research done on finding reasons behind premature ejaculation. There are a few hunches: Some doctors believe biological factors like changes in the way of interactions of hormones and nerves or an oversensitive penis causes premature ejaculation. Serotonin, a natural substance made by the nerves in the brain may play a role.

High production of serotonin in the brain can increase the time of ejaculation. Other experts think emotional/psychological factors such as fear of sexual performance failure, depression, guilt, stress, lack of confidence, earlier records of sexual repression, or relationship issues, are the cause.

Furthermore, aging can be an indirect cause of PE as older men are found to have less firm and not long-lasting penile erections that lead to early ejaculation. [1,3]

How do Doctors Diagnose Premature Ejaculation?

Premature ejaculation is diagnosed by a urologist or general physician if:

almost always, ejaculation occurs unintentionally within a minute of penetration

the condition is persistent for more than 6 months

early ejaculation is distressing

the time taken to achieve ejaculation is actually in the abnormal range and not just a feeling of being too short

if there is no underlying medical problem identified as a cause.

For diagnosis, the patient must inform his doctor about his average time taken to ejaculate, the number of times or frequency of premature ejaculation happening too early, how much bothersome is premature ejaculation, and whether he can delay his ejaculation. Further medical tests are run to check if premature ejaculation is thought to be a result of some medical problem. [3]

Treatment Options for Premature Ejaculation

The main remedies for PE include psychological therapy, behavioral therapy, and medical therapy. The healthcare provider can help determine the best choice for a particular patient. At a single time, patients can invest in more than one treatment.

Psychological Therapy- This approach focuses on the emotions and feelings that may result in issues with sexual relationships. Its goal is to learn the main culprit of the problems and figure out solutions that may help PE. This way the couples can build a stronger bond with one another. The therapy can help patients overcome their fears of sexual inadequacy and be more sexually confident as well as understanding to help sexually satisfy their partners. It can be a stand-alone therapy or done along with other therapies.

Behavioral Therapy– In this therapy, the patients are asked to perform certain exercises routinely to build a tolerance to delay ejaculation. Some choices worth trying out include:
1. The Squeeze Method: This involves penis stimulation by both partners until the male partner is going to reach sexual climax. When close to ejaculation, either of the sex partners firmly squeezes the penis so that the erection goes away partly. The goal is to become aware of sensations that lead to the climax and then at some time be able to better control and delay sexual climax on own.
2.The Start-Stop Method: In this method, both sex partners stimulate the penis only just before ejaculation. When about to ejaculate, both of them may stop until the urge to climax lessen and when the male partner regains control, they can start stimulating the penis again. This can be done repeatedly 3 times a week until the male partner has more control.

Medical Therapy– Some drugs can help increase the time taken for an individual to ejaculate. These include numbing creams or sprays that can be applied at the tip of the penis to reduce sensations and even oral drugs that can affect serotonin levels. One option for drug therapy is alpha 1- adrenoceptor antagonist. The drugs for PE can be consumed daily or only prior to having sex, as directed by the doctor on the sexual activity of the patient. [1,3]

Self-Help Techniques to Control Premature Ejaculation

Before consulting a doctor for medical assistance, try out some self-help techniques, including:

Masturbate for 1-2 hours before getting indulged in sexual intercourse

Reduce the sensation of the penis by using a thick condom
Practice deep breathing to shut down the ejaculatory reflex for a brief time period.

Try out a sex position wherein the partner lies on top to allow her to pull away your penis when you are about to experience sexual climax.

While having sex take some breaks and keep distracting yourself by thinking about something that’s not related to sex

If married or in a long-term relationship, try taking benefit from couple therapy. In such a therapy, you may be shown techniques that can help you put away the habit of premature ejaculation. [4]

ORDER NOW!

Try Out Everyday Male Sexual Health Supplements!

Cilexin– It is a dietary supplement containing both modern and traditional, the finest natural ingredients that support male arousal, sexual health, and sexual mood.
Does your man not get pleasure from sex? Does he face difficulty in getting in the mood for sex? Does he ask for sex all the time? If such questions are popping into one’s mind, one must be likely to come across sexual frustration.

Most people have the opinion that sexual frustration pertains merely to irritability because of lack of sex but that’s not the only thing, even couples having sex often get sexually frustrated. In reality, sexual frustration is a state of agitation, stress, and irritation caused by unfulfilled sexual desires. As sex is a basic need for all adults, it’s natural to feel frustrated when such needs are not met. There is no shame to have sexual dissatisfaction or frustration.

In this blog, one can explore more about sexual frustration, its causes, the signs indicating sexual frustration among men, and how to manage this feeling. [1, 2]

What is Sexual Frustration?

Sexual frustration is a biological and/or psychological response to having an unfulfilled sexual impulse that many people experience at some point in their life. It is a natural and normal reaction among adults that is not associated with any particular official medical diagnosis. Many people use it as a reference to someone’s sexual needs not being met while having sex or just at the thought of sex, leading to tension.

Sexual frustration can manifest in different maladaptive ways including depression, and agitation., anxiety, anger, and recklessness. It emerges, in the same way, irrespective of gender, relationship status, sexual orientation, or ethnicity of an individual. [1, 4]

What causes Sexual Frustration?

Many factors can contribute to sexual frustration. For instance, a fight between a couple may affect their intimacy and cause sexual frustration or one of the partners may have low libido (sex drive) resulting in misaligned sexual desires.

Therefore, the possible causes of sexual frustration may include:

Sexual abstinence

Lack of satisfying sexual activity even within a physical relationship

Relationship issues

Lack of a sex partner or opportunity to have sex

Internalized stigma

Stress and fatigue

Trauma from a past sexual partner

Medical conditions including anxiety, depression, high blood

pressure, hormonal imbalance, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, and sexual dysfunction disorders or male sexual issues like anorgasmia and erectile dysfunction. [1, 4, 5]

Common Signs of Male Sexual Frustration

Sexual frustration can take a variety of forms. Here are some of the signs that a man is sexually frustrated:

He is Having Less Communication.
Sex requires the two partners to be physically and mentally connected. So, if a man is not able to make efforts to meet his partner at emotional connection points, sexual frustration may stem in him as he is not able to connect and feel his partner.

He is not Showing his Emotions or Running Wild with them.
Some men who used to be stable in their emotions may suddenly have their emotions reaching heights. Sometimes, the emotions may be at a high peak, and at other times they may drop down to dangerously low levels. The destabilization of their emotional core could be because of sexual frustration.

He has Got Mood Swings.
Men may have a swift downturn in their moods. Sometimes, they may become extra irritable. There may be times when seemingly minor things may ruin their day or even worse, they may feel that their day is ruined because of their partner. All these could indicate their sexual frustration.
Sex means to connect with a loved one and when there is little sex, there is less understanding and/or sympathy between the couple. Sex can help release all kinds of stressors and without sex men are allowing their stress to build up and percolate within them, thereby affecting their daily mood.

He is Spending more Time Doing his Hobbies.
When men have a lack of connection with their partners, they might outlet their pent-up sexual urges in other physical activities. They might invest more time in their hobbies like hitting the gym, bike riding, playing sports and even spending more time with their friends and family. This could be another sign that they are sexually frustrated.

It seems that he Wants to have Sex at all Times.
If a man is repeatedly sending signals (subtle or otherwise) to his partner and she is not reciprocating, it’s a sign of sexual frustration. But why do men ask for sex all the time? Well, it’s very complex than one can realize. Sex holds a deep link to many other things such as self-esteem, confidence, self-worth, satisfaction, and excitement. For some men, sex is all about getting validated that they are worthy and desired. For others, sex is about deeply connecting with a female partner while some men still use sex to add some excitement to their lives. Most men may have these goals intermingled and they may get frustrated if they are not achieving the connection, excitement, or validation they are longing for. [3]

Some Ways to Let Men Cope with their Sexual Frustration

It’s important to know that sex is not just about being physical for men, they want to feel wanted and loved. So, if men are experiencing sexual frustration, here are some ways to deal with it:

Focus on their Overall Health: Men who are meeting their nutritional and sleep requirements would be able to better focus on meeting their sexual needs.

Regular Exercising: Men who keep their bodies very active might agree that physical activities can help reduce stress and boost one’s mind.

Good Communication: If men voice out their sexual needs and desires, they can avoid getting sexually dissatisfied by their partner.

Taking Medications and Health Supplements: Sometimes, men have sexual frustration stemming from issues in their sexual performance such as premature ejaculation and erectile dysfunction. By getting treated for such problems, men can achieve a better sexual experience and reduce their sexual frustration.

A low sperm count signifies a low level of normal sperm count in the fluid (semen) ejaculated during an orgasm. Oligospermia is another name for low sperm counts. Azoospermia is the medical term for a sperm count of 0. Less than 15 million sperm per milliliter of semen is regarded as a lower-than-normal sperm count.

The likelihood that one man’s sperm will fertilize his partner’s egg and cause conception, can decrease if one has a low sperm count. However, many guys with low sperm counts can still become fathers. [1]

Symptoms of Weak Sperm:

The main sign of a low sperm count is the inability to conceive a child. For some men, an underlying condition such as inherited chromosomal abnormalities, hormone imbalances, dilated testicular veins, or a condition that inhibits sperm from flowing through can cause signs and symptoms. [1, 2]

Among the signs of a low sperm count are:

Problems with sexual function, such as decreased sexual drive or problems maintaining an erection.

Experiencing pain, edema, or a lump close to the testicles

Diminished facial or body hair, as well as other signs of chromosomal or hormonal problems. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Causes of Weak Sperm:

The intricate process of producing sperm depends on the healthy operation of the testicles, the hypothalamus, and the pituitary gland, two brain structures that create hormones that stimulate sperm production. The fragile tubes that carry sperm to the penis from the testicles, where they join with semen, are where they travel after they are produced. Any of these systems may encounter problems that affect sperm production. Furthermore, abnormalities in sperm morphology, motility, or function could develop. [1, 2, 4]

Medical Causes of Weak Sperm:

Several illnesses and treatments can bring on low sperm counts. A few of these are:

1. Varicocele: A varicocele is an augmentation of the testicular veins. It is the most common and curable cause of male infertility. Even though the exact cause of varicoceles that lead to infertility is unknown, poor testicular temperature regulation may play a role. Varicoceles result in decline in the quality of the sperm.

2. Infection: Some infections might affect sperm health or production or lead to scarring that prevents sperm from passing through. These include sex-related illnesses like gonorrhea or HIV and inflammation of the testicles or epididymis. However, even though some diseases might permanently destroy the testicles, sperm is often retrievable.

3. Ejaculation Difficulties: During an orgasm, if semen enters the bladder rather than arriving out of the tip of the penis, it is known as retrograde ejaculation. Numerous medical conditions, including diabetes, spinal injuries, and bladder, prostate, or urethral surgery, can cause retrograde ejaculation or the absence of ejaculation.

4. Medications: Alpha blockers used to treat high blood pressure are one kind of medicine that may cause ejaculatory issues. Sperm can be taken straight from the testicles in most situations with persistent ejaculation issues.

5. Sperm-Attacking Antibodies: Immune system cells, also known as the anti-sperm antibodies, mistakenly view sperm as harmful invaders and make an effort to eliminate them.

6. Tumors: Male reproductive organs can be directly affected by cancers and benign tumors, indirectly through reproductive hormone-producing tissues like the pituitary gland, or through unexplained causes. Male fertility may also be impacted by tumor-related surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy.

7. Undescended Testicles: One or both testicles may occasionally fail to plunge from the abdomen into the sac that houses the testicles during fetal development (scrotum). Reduced fertility is more likely to affect men with this condition.

8. Imbalances in Hormone Production: The brain, pituitary, and testicles all create hormones necessary for the generation of sperm. Changes to these hormones and those from other organs, including the thyroid and adrenal gland, may hinder sperm production.

The testicle itself, the tubes that drain it, the epididymis, the vas deferens, close to the ejaculatory ducts, and the urethra are all potential places for obstruction on any scale.

9. Chromosomal Defects: Male reproductive organs grow abnormally due to inherited conditions like Klinefelter’s syndrome. In this condition, males are born with two X chromosomes and one Y chromosome instead of one X and one Y. Kartagener’s syndrome, Kallmann’s syndrome, and cystic fibrosis is a few different genetic syndromes linked to infertility.

10. Celiac Disease: Celiac disease, a digestive ailment brought on by a sensitivity to gluten, can impair male fertility. Following the adoption of a gluten-free diet, fertility may improve.

11. Certain Medicines: Male fertility can be decreased and sperm production hampered by testosterone replacement therapy, long-term anabolic steroid use, chemotherapy, some antifungal and antibiotic medications, some ulcer medications, and other drugs.

12. Primary Operations: Vasectomy, inguinal hernia repairs, scrotal or testicular surgery, prostate surgery, and extensive abdominal surgery for testicular or rectal cancer, among other processes, may all prohibit one from having sperm in their ejaculate. Surgery can often remove these obstructions or remove sperm straight from the testicles and epididymis. [1, 2, 4, 5]

What Makes Ejaculations Weak?

A weaker-than-normal orgasm can result from any disorder that affects the muscles and nerves governing ejaculation.

Diminished Pelvic Muscles: The muscles that force semen out of the body are weakened by aging. Ejaculation force may decrease when these muscles deteriorate.

Low Amounts of Hormones: Androgens, a class of male hormones, are essential for a fulfilling sexual life. These hormone levels decrease as a guy age. Levels that fall significantly can result in lesser orgasms.

Retrograde Ejaculation: Semen exits a man’s penis through his urethra on each ejaculation. A valve functions as a gate between the urethra and the bladder. It stops sperm from entering the bladder. [2, 3, 4]

The Following are Six Ways Men Can Boost Fertility and Make Their Sperm Healthy:

1. Do Daily Exercise: It is crucial to exercise for overall health. Men can increase blood flow in their bodies through exercise. Regular physical activity can improve male fertility. [7] Make sure to maintain a healthy weight to boost fertility. The body’s hormone balance can be disturbed by being overweight or underweight, which might result in reduced sperm counts. [5]

Here are a few more advantages of exercise:

Regular exercising will raise testosterone levels.

Men’s semen quality improved by it.

Exercise regularly can increase fertility and lower the likelihood of infertility.

2. Reduced Tension: Male infertility is primarily brought on by stress, anxiety, and melancholy. Stress in mind prevents the majority of men from developing sexual feelings. The study found that stress harms one’s physical and mental well-being.

Keep the following in mind:

Sexual desire may become less intense under stress.

It raises the level of cortisol, which lowers the level of testosterone.

Getting enough rest and taking the recommended medications for the issue are advisable.

Take a full 8-hour nap each day, and men can also benefit from improved support at the infertility clinic. [5]

3. Ashwagandha: An all-natural treatment for infertility problems is ashwagandha. Scientific studies have shown that ashwagandha can treat infertility in several ways, including:

It aids in boosting male fertility and testosterone levels.

It is most well-known for raising sperm quality and quantity.

Men who use ashwagandha won’t experience any adverse side effects on their bodies.

4. Eat more Meals High in Antioxidants: Antioxidants are chemicals that neutralize substances known as free radicals, which harm cells. Numerous vitamins and minerals produce antioxidants, and some studies have linked antioxidant intake to increased sperm count. Among the antioxidants that may support a healthy sperm count are:

Beta-carotene

Lutein

Beta-cryptoxanthin

Vitamin C. [4]

5. Consume Wholesome, Nutrient-Rich Foods: Not just mom’s nutritional requirements will be tested during the pregnancy; men also require nutrients that increase fertility. It has also shown that walnuts and other antioxidant-rich meals, like fruits and vegetables, might enhance the quality of sperm. Additionally, shortages of vitamins C, D, and E, zinc, selenium, folic acid, and good fats like omega-3 fatty acids may affect the quantity and quality of sperm. [6]

6. Quit Drinking and Smoking: Lower sperm counts have associated with recreational drug use and smoking. A man’s stats can also drop if he drinks a lot. These behaviors, when combined, are especially detrimental to male fertility. There are numerous positive reasons to stop smoking, including the potential to increase fertility. According to research on smoking and sperm quality, smoking impacts a variety of sperm health factors, such as sperm counts, sperm motility (the sperm’s capacity to swim), and sperm shape.

Drinking too much alcohol can reduce fertility. It may be wise for males to cut back on, or perhaps cease, their alcohol use if they are hoping to conceive. [3]

ORDER NOW!

Supplement that can help support Male Infertility Issues:

VitaPost Prostate Plus formula is made with modern and traditional ingredients that help provide nutrients in support of the prostate.
Penile erection, also known as a boner, is a healthy, normal body function that marks sexual arousal in males. However, there are times when an erection may happen instantly in social situations or any environment when one is not in the mood to have sex. An unwanted erection in males can be a distressing, uncomfortable, and unpleasant experience.

Want to get rid of unwanted boner? Thankfully, there are many ways to calm the erection which surely not includes masturbating. In this article, one can learn about the causes of erection, reasons behind random erection, and ways to avoid or stop a surprising boner. [1, 2, 3]

Why do Men Have Boners?

During normal routine activities, the penis stays firm. Erections can happen during sexual arousal or randomly, which results in the rushing of blood to the penis. Corpora cavernosa, a pair of muscular structures that are cylindrical and spongy in appearance are responsible for such a reaction.

At the time of sexual arousal or spontaneous erections, the nerve signals trigger more supply of blood to the corpora cavernosa. This sudden flushing of blood results in the lengthening and stiffening of the penis, hence causing an erection. [2]

Why do Unwanted Erections Occur?

Men of any age, especially those who are in early puberty, can have random erections- erections that occur without sexual stimulation. It may seem abnormal, but spontaneous erections usually indicate that men are healthy, young, and reproductively capable. There are three kinds of random erections:

Nocturnal erection: It happens early morning or at night when one is asleep and is associated with REM (Random Eye Movement) sleep. Morning erection or morning wood is usually an outcome of a surge in the level of testosterone- a male sex hormone.

Psychogenic erection: It occurs when one is having erotic thinking or sexual thoughts. Some men can’t control their erection if they see someone or something arousing, for instance, a sexy girl in a hot dress.

Reflexogenic erection: It happens in response to touch.

Unwelcome erections in men can even happen without any actual reason- take it simply as life making the day a little harder for the person. However, it is a sign that the guy is sexually functioning well. [2, 3]

How to Put an End to an Unwanted Erection or Erectile Dysfunction Treatment?

Ejaculation is the most straightforward approach to getting rid of penile erection but it may not work for all men as it is not always possible to reach orgasm when having an erection. Here are some tips to stop a random erection and even avoid having it in the first place without taking any medications or going for therapy.

Get the Mind Distracted
Anxious thoughts or emotions can lead to sexual arousal and eventually unwanted erection. However, one of the things to stop or avoid erection is to get the mind off it. When having naughty imagination, it’s better to backpedal a little to let the boner easily deflate. So when having an unwanted erection, keep the mind busy. Some ways to keep the mind distracted include solving a math problem, reading a book, watching something in comedy or any other genre except romance or porn, or talking to a friend or anybody else. [1, 2]

Meditation
Counter-erotic thinking helps get rid of an unwanted erection. Meditation can similarly help clear the mind. It involves taking slow and deep breaths and regulating breathing in such a way that anxiety and stress can be reduced. Beginners of meditation can avoid unwanted erection by focusing on the sound of their breath, acknowledging arousal thoughts, and getting rid of them by refocusing on breathing when their mind wanders. This is known as concentrated or focussed meditation. Another way could be mentally repeating a single word in the mind. Meditation requires regular practice for a few minutes in the morning and at the end of the day. There are many guided meditation podcasts, albums, and apps that can help one practice meditation. So, whenever one is facing a random erection, one can try to meditate few minutes. [1, 2]

Calmingly Wait
Some men find waiting for an erection to go away on its own as the simplest solution to stop unwanted erections. So, one having the same problem must not panic, sit down or relax, and slowly breathe. Until the little man gets calm and goes into submission, men can cover their genital area with long clothing or hands or keep something over the lap to disguise it. [1]

Reposition the Penis
Certain body positions can erect the penis especially if the fabric or any other thing is touching the penis or brushing against it. However, by shifting the body position i.e. the way one sits or moves, one can remove or avoid the stimulation of the penis to cause an erection. It may also work for hiding the erection. So, by just placing hands in their pocket one can gently reposition their erect penis. [1, 2]

Take Cold Water Baths or Shower
Cold temperatures can be reasonably effective to get rid of an unwanted erection. Scientists believe this is because cold temperatures can contract the blood vessels of the penis, thereby reducing blood flow which is needed to trigger erection-ergo limp penis. Not only cold showers or baths but even by pressing a cold can on one’s crotch or using wet wipes over the erectile penis can help remove one’s unwanted boner. [3]

Gentle Exercise
Some men can distract their erotic or arousal thoughts with gentle exercises. For instance, they can try power walking, jogging, or a leisure ride around nature to stop their unwanted erection. [3]

Pinch and Squeeze the Penis
Giving a little punishment to the genital area in the form of squeezing and pinching the erect penis can help deflate it. This needs to be done in a private room unless one wants to get accused of jerking off in public. [3]

For instances when time is critical and the above-mentioned tips won’t be helpful for managing unwanted erection, the only way out would be to conceal the erection. This is possible by sitting down and leaning forward, crossing the legs, covering the penis with something, tucking the penis, or excusing oneself and running into a private room or bathroom and waiting for the crotch bulge to subside. [3]

ORDER NOW!

Order the amazing sexual male health products Cilexin and Prostate Plus for enhancing sexual life and reproductive area health.

References:

https://www.healthline.com/health/mens-health/how-to-stop-an-erection

https://healthmatch.io/erectile-dysfunction/how-to-get-rid-of-an-erection#overview

https://www.lovepanky.com/men/guy-talk/how-to-get-rid-of-an-unwanted-erection

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is characterized by premature ejaculation. ED is a more general issue frequently caused by a combination of poor health conditions that restrict blood flow. In contrast, premature ejaculation is merely the inability to sustain intercourse for more than a few minutes.

Premature ejaculation is frequently classified as a psychological disorder due to excessive masturbation or a tight pelvic floor. It is a common sexual complaint among men, is a sexual dysfunction where the semen is passed out of the penis sooner than wanted at the time of sexual climax. It has been found that one out of every 3 adult men experiences this at some point in their lives.

Premature ejaculation is not a worrisome situation if it occurs occasionally. But, men can be diagnosed with this male sex problem, if they:

Regularly ejaculate within 1-3 minutes of entering the vagina

Are not able to delay their ejaculation while having sexual intercourse all or nearly all the time

Are sexually frustrated and as a result, tend to avoid being sexually intimate.

However, the good news is if either or both the sex partners are persistently frustrated and embarrassed by ejaculation times, the problem can be treated. There are medications, sex-related counseling, and even techniques to delay ejaculation and help make sex life better for both partners. [1, 2]

Premature Ejaculation Causes

There is no known reason behind premature ejaculation. Researchers believe that the brain chemistry of men, meaning those who have low serotonin levels in their brains might be taking less time to ejaculate. Some emotional factors can play a role including:

Stress

Guilt

Depression

Anxiety

Lack of self-confidence because of poor body image

Relationship issues

Conscious about sexual performance

Sexual repression- having negative feelings or thoughts about the idea of sex.

Other potential causes for premature ejaculation include:

Abnormal levels of neurotransmitters

Hormonal imbalances

Infection or inflammation of the prostate gland or the urethra

Erectile dysfunction- When men are not able to keep their penis erect for sex and even if they do they are afraid to lose it and that’s when they develop a pattern of rushing to ejaculate. This can be a habit that is hard to break.

Genetic predisposition. [3]

Types of Premature Ejaculation

There are two kinds of premature ejaculation:

1. Primary (or lifelong) Premature Ejaculation- It is a situation wherein males always have this problem of ejaculating very soon, starting from the first sexual encounter. Often, this is because of psychological reasons like having experienced sexual trauma at a young age.

2. Secondary (or acquired) Premature Ejaculation- It is when the males have recently developed the problem due to physical and psychological factors. For instance, having prostatitis or drinking too much alcohol. This means in their previous sexual experiences they didn’t have this ejaculation problem. [1, 2]

Treatment Options for Premature Ejaculation

If premature ejaculation is because of the physical conditions mentioned above, then their treatment should help. A general physician can recommend for best treatment options. Treatment options for erectile dysfunction include medications, the use of penis pumps, penile implants, and exercises.

The common treatments for premature ejaculation are

• Behavioral Techniques: 95% of men with premature ejaculation can be helped out by the following techniques:

Stop and Start- It is where either of the partners stimulates the penis until the male partner feels like being close to experiencing orgasm. This technique must be stopped for about 30 seconds or until the feeling fades away. The stimulation must be repeated 3-4 times before the male partner ejaculates.

The Squeeze- This goes the same as the stop and starts method with the only difference being that the penis head is squeezed right before reaching orgasm until the penile erection is lost. It must be repeated a few times before ejaculating.

Pelvic Floor Exercises/ Kegel Exercises- Premature ejaculation can sometimes be caused because of weak pelvic floor muscles. Kegel exercises can help strengthen these muscles.

To perform such exercises, men can first look for their right pelvic floor muscle to tighten by stopping their urine in midstream or tightening the muscles that keep them from passing gas as both these actions make use of pelvic floor muscles. Once these muscles are identified, they can be exercised in any possible way. However, men must first lie down to easily exercise them.

For making the exercising technique perfect, the pelvic floor muscle must be held tight for 3 seconds and then released for the same duration. Men must aim for repeating the exercises 10 times at least thrice a day. When these muscles get stronger, kegel exercises can be tried out in different ways like while standing, sitting, and walking. While exercising, men must be careful not to flex the muscles in the thighs, abdomen, or buttocks. For optimal results, breathing must not be held during the kegel exercises.

• Medications: These include selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, anesthetic creams with or without thick condoms to make the penis less sensitive, certain pain killers like tramadol, and phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors whose side effects are delaying ejaculation.

• Counseling: If depression, stress, or anxiety is contributing to premature ejaculation, then seeking counseling with a psychiatrist or psychologist can help. Counseling sessions can help men reduce performance anxiety and also find better ways to deal with stressors. Premature ejaculation might cause partners to feel less connected, so talking about this thing is important. Sex therapy and relationship counseling also might help. [1, 3, 4]

Note:

Talk to an expert for more information on Premature Ejaculation and Erectile Dysfunction treatment for severe cases

Self-Help Tips:

Before receiving medical help, one can try out these tips:

Make use of a thick condom to help reduce sensation. There are specially designed “climax control” condoms available over the counter which are made of thick latex and have a coating of numbing agents on it.

Masturbate for 1-2 hours before having sex.

Choose a sex pose where the partner is on top to allow the partner to pull away while one is close to ejaculating.

Take a deep breath to shut down the ejaculatory reflex for a brief period.

Take short breaks while having sex and keep distracting the mind on different things not related to sex.

Take couples therapy (if in a long-term relationship with the partner).

Take natural male health supplements that support the sexual health and performance.

ORDER NOW!

The two popular dietary supplements that are worth a try for men with premature ejaculation are Cilexin and Prostate Plus.
Orgasm, also known as a sexual climax, is reaching the height of sexual arousal and achieving peak sexual pleasure. This can happen to anybody, irrespective of gender, who is involved in sexual activity to release tension build-up in their body and genitals. Everyone experience orgasms differently as orgasms are a combination of environmental, physical, psychological, and emotional factors. [1]

For male orgasms, testosterone plays an important role. It is a male sex hormone that raises sexual desire in men and it is like a glue connecting all the contributing stimuli (like mental, physical, etc.), resulting in penile erection, sexual tension, and orgasm/ejaculation. There are four linear phases of male orgasm– arousal, plateau, orgasm, and resolution. The orgasm phase has two divisions- emission and ejaculation.

Men can experience 14 different types of male orgasm, including:

Ejaculatory orgasm

Retrograde (non-ejaculatory) orgasm

Pelvic orgasm

Prostate orgasm

Oral orgasm

Anal orgasm

Nipple orgasm

Blended orgasm

Multiple orgasms

Breathe orgasm

Skin orgasm

Sleep orgasm

Fantasy orgasm

Coreorgasm [1]

Ways for Men to Improve their Orgasm and Even Make It More Intense and Satisfying:

1. Try Edging
According to a sex research study, it has been advocated that men who practice edging, a purposeful delaying of orgasm, can achieve a more intense sexual climax. Therefore, men must work harder up to the brink of an orgasm, slow down a little, pause it right before the need to release, and then start back again instead of giving themselves a predictable happy ending. Repeating this 2-3 times before letting go can help them achieve a more powerful and wholesome sexual climax. [2, 3]

2. Perineum Play or the P-spot (The Prostate) Massage
The perineum or taint is the skin strip lying in between the balls and the anus. It is a highly erogenous zone containing a lot of nerve endings which makes it extremely sensitive such that just by touching it with soft hands, men can feel an orgasm.

The prostate gland is a male organ equivalent to the G-spot in females. Externally, men can stimulate their prostate gland by applying gentle pressure to the perineum. To maximize their sexual pleasure, they can go for little anal probing. While having sexual intercourse or oral sex, men can ask their partner to stick their finger just 2 inches inside their butt. Once, they feel a small lump of walnut size, they can press onto it until the pressure feels just right and even apply slight thrusting. If playing solo, a prostate massager or a vibratory butt plug can help them get an orgasm. [2, 3]

3. Try Multiple Orgasms (Prostate and Penile)
With enough practice, men can achieve non-ejaculatory multiple small orgasms in a row that are usually less intense. This requires having a pesky refractory period. The key is to squeeze the pubococcygeal muscles right before reaching sexual climax until the feeling of ejaculation and orgasm can be separately identified. Deep breathing can also help men experience these feel-good sensations without ejaculating. [ 2]

4. Kegel Exercises
Some physical activities known as kegel exercises can help men experience a better orgasm. These exercises help the pubococcygeus muscles of the pelvic floor to contract, thereby providing great control and intense satisfaction/pleasure during sex. Ding kegel can even help men maintain a healthy penis. By contracting the pelvic floor muscles and holding them for 10 seconds 10 times a day, men can experience much better orgasms. [2, 3]

5. Shorten the Refractory Period
The refractory period refers to the time when men are not able to have their penis erect again immediately after they had sex. For every man, the length of this period varies. It can last anywhere between a few minutes to an entire day. However, men can have a shorter refractory period by increasing their sexual arousal by trying out different things like using a sex toy, having sex talks, or just having small new changes and excitement needed to get another penile erection. [2]

6. Use Sex Toys
Sex toys are not only marketed for females, there are a variety of sex toys made for men or penis-owners to pick and choose from and achieve a sensational climax. These include Fleshlight (a popular male masturbator), prostate massagers, cock rings, and butt plugs. [2, 3]

7. Control Breathing
Men can build their orgasms by just trying to zero in all their breath and keep it slow and light, toning the pace with their thrusts. Controlled breathing can help them get enough oxygen-rich blood flow to their genitals, providing them with stronger orgasms, while still not taking away all their breath. [3]

8. Have an Orgasm-Friendly Diet
To be in shape with every aspect of sex life, men must eat better. Their diet must include green leafy vegetables like spinach, cabbage, kale, and bok choy which are rich in folate. Spinach can help increase blood flow to the genitals by dilating the blood vessels. Eating eggs is a must as they are rich in B vitamins, this help reduces stress, and are important for a healthy libido. Adding oatmeal and whole grains to the diet can help boost testosterone levels in the bloodstream. More testosterone production means stronger orgasms. [2]

9. Focus On the Physical Sensation
While having sex, men may start getting lost in different thoughts, which is why they may not feel an orgasm. So for a better orgasm, they must return to their body and concentrate on their physical sensation as their penis goes in and out of the partner’s vagina. This way they could feel their body responding differently. [2]

10. Boost the Testosterone
By trying out different testosterone-boosting activities like running, weight lifting, or playing their favorite sports, men can have a better orgasm. [2]

11. Lower Hypertension
Keeping normal blood pressure can help men have a good sex life along with overall well-being. That’s because high blood pressure can cut down the blood supply to the penis which is required to make it erect. Also, hypertension is known to be linked with reduced sexual desire and ejaculation. [2]

12. Try out Male Sexual Support Supplements
VitaPost Cilexin supplement that can help men be the star of their sexual performance. These supplements contain the finest ingredients from traditional botanical extracts like Maca root, Tongkat Ali, and Panax Ginseng root to modern amino acids (L-arginine) that are scientifically proven to support sexual mood, male arousal, and sexual health- in short help men achieve better and intense orgasms.
Moments, when couples feel romantically and sexually connected, are so special. Such moments of intimacy should be filled with fun and enjoyment for both partners.

It has been seen that during sexual intercourse or simply while cuddling in bed, both partners are under pressure of impressing each other. But, there can be real awkward instances that can happen for any couple while having sex which is normal and not to be ashamed of, if partners are in the more honest level of relationship. Everyone is aware that intimate moments are not all about physical acts but even emotional ones and all of it is OKAY!

So, what are the things that can go wrong with the couple during sex and make them feel awkward, uncomfortable, and downright embarrassed? Well, these weird moments during sex are all very common, so calm down and carry on. Continue reading about the 7 most awkward sex moments that can happen to every couple and learn about the ways to deal with them. [1, 2, 3]

1. Queefing
All women having vaginal sex tend to experience their vagina making strange noises at times, which is genuinely normal to happen. The weird noses from the vagina can be because of the release of some trapped air or fluids from the vaginal canal. If both the partners are unphased by such noises, it’s a gentle reminder to think it’s normal, not to make mood upset, and to avoid taking a halt from sex. [3]

2. Farting
Not only sex, but any intense body workouts can also lead to the release of gases that people consider farts. But, launching a fart (a rather smelly one) in the middle of sexual intercourse can be very awkward and the first instinct might be to leave the room.

Farting is a very common thing that the human body does anytime, so why shy from this natural thing. Even if it happens at inopportune times, it’s just advised to laugh it off and continue with sex (and then maybe light a scented candle). [1, 2, 3]

3. Women with Higher Libido (Sex Drive) Than Men
Men might probably find themselves more into sexual activities than women. But, in reality, it might be awkward for a man to realize that his partner’s libido is higher than his. A woman might turn out to be holding herself back until she is completely comfortable with her partner. And when she is, she can appear surprisingly horny. [1]

4. Urge to Urinate
Think of being in the heat of having sex- it’s sexy, hot, and it’s a great time, and soon a full urinary bladder interrupt. Anyone can experience stoppage during sex and rush to the washroom to pee. But, will that kill the vibe between the partners? Definitely, who would like to pee all over the bedsheets or wait out as the bladder can no longer wait to get emptied?

In such a case, it is completely OKAY to stop having sex and pass the urine. In addition, it is important to be aware of what orgasms feel like. Female ejaculation can feel as if the woman is about to pee. If confused or worried about such a sensation, it’s recommended to not be afraid of bringing this thing to the doctor’s notice to make sure. [3]

5. Body not Cooperating
Consider a feeling when one wants to eat his/her favorite meal but is extremely tired to get up and make or have it. Similarly, it could sometimes happen that one is in the mood of getting intimate but his/her partner is significantly unable to perform. This could feel distressing but one must not be embarrassed about it.

Sex is known to make one’s body physically very active and speed up one’s heart rate, so if not very active, sexual intercourse may not be possible. The best solution to such a case is to put the tired partner at ease and rather than for sex go for cuddling. Sometimes, the body may not react the way one it wants it to and it’s OKAY to allow that moment to pass and try again for sex some another time. [2]

6. Getting Too Wet or Not Getting Wet
While having sex or feeling orgasm, it is completely normal for women to have wet vagina. However, there are lot many ladies who feel ashamed of getting too wet. Being wet simply means that they are enjoying and having a great time or it’s all because of hormones, as simple as that. Therefore, women must no longer feel embarrassed of their too-wet vaginas.

Moreover, just like getting too wet can make some people feel awkward, being dry down is associated with the same feeling. Not being wet at all is normal once in a while. It could occur because of biological reasons if the body is changing. In such a case, it is very normal to use lubricants for the vagina to ease the process of penis penetration. People must be open-minded about too-dry vaginas and help each other with this. [2] Some time premature ejaculation occurs in males and it is also awkward thing that happens in males and there can be various causes for premature ejaculation. Taking the help of doctor can help manage it.

7. Periods Blood Flow During Sex
Sometimes, females may get their menstrual periods early and at the time of sex. For some couples, this seems to be completely OKAY while for some it isn’t. Well, one must know that periods happen naturally and can’t be controlled, so why worry about them? If the couple does not have any issues in continuing sex during periods, then there is no problem. But, if couples are not comfortable with that, then the only option is to wait for periods to end.

Apart from this, it’s advised to have good communication with each other to figure out in what things other person feels comfortable and in what they aren’t comfortable with. It’s better to talk about such things beforehand if it could help. In such a case, both partners are vulnerable and no one must feel bad about doing something they are uncomfortable with. All that must be done is to be mindful of each other’s insecurities, laugh at the awkward sex moments and move on. [2]

Facing issues in keeping penis erect and firm enough to sexually satisfy one’s partner? Don’t fret, it’s treatable!

Most men at some point in their lives have their penis behaving not right, indicating a sexual health concern- erectile dysfunction. Some men may not be facing any issues currently but have possible problems lurking beneath the surface. The good news is that there are remedies available to restore sexual function to virtually all men and a vast majority of men do respond to such therapies. But, the foremost thing that men must keep in mind is to not feel embarrassed about their penile or sexual problems and hide from the urologist. In any case, any kind of problem with the penis must not be ignored. It’s recommended to consult a certified urologist who could help properly diagnose the penile condition, find out its causes, and accordingly provide a treatment plan. [1, 2]

What is Erectile Dysfunction?

Erectile dysfunction (ED), also referred to as impotency, is the persistent inability of males to get or keep up a sufficient penile erection for up-to-the-mark sexual performance. Researchers predict that by 2025, the prevalence of erectile dysfunction in men aged 40-70 years would be approximately 322 million throughout the world.

If men are having trouble keeping their penis erect for sex from time to time, it’s not necessarily a concern. However, if they are experiencing erectile dysfunction as an ongoing problem, they can feel stressed, have lower self-confidence, and also face relationship issues. [3, 4]

Causes of Erectile Dysfunction

For sexual arousal in males, many factors play a role including their emotions, brain, nerves, hormones, blood vessels, and muscles. Erectile dysfunction can happen as a result of any of these. Mental health issues and stress can even lead to or worsen erectile dysfunction.

Earlier, it was commonly believed that erectile dysfunction is caused by psychological issues. It is now known that for most men physical problems like limited blood supply to the penis or damage to nerves can result in erectile dysfunction. Sometimes, men may have a combination of psychological and physical issues. For instance, a minor physical issue that could affect the sexual response might cause anxiety about maintaining an erection. The resulting anxiety could in turn worsen or lead to erectile dysfunction.[3, 4]

Common Physical Causes/Risk Factors of ED:

Not enough blood flows into the penis as a result of health issues like Atherosclerosis (blocked arteries due to high cholesterol), heart disease, diabetes, or even smoking

The penis is not able to trap blood to keep itself erect

Certain injuries, diseases, or surgeries that affect the spinal cord or pelvic area that harm nerves leading to the penis, which is why nerve signals from the brain or spinal cord are not able to reach the penis for sexual arousal

Type-2 diabetes leads to nerve damage to the penis or small vessel disease

Certain prescription medications (e.g. Blood pressure lowering drugs and antidepressants)

Peyronie’s disease- scarring inside the penis

Use of tobacco, alcoholism, or other forms of substance abuse like recreational drugs (heroin and nicotine)

Old age

Lack of exercise

Parkinson’s disease

Hypertension

Obesity

Multiple sclerosis

Metabolic syndrome

Sleep disorders

Low testosterone

Osteoporosis

Asthma

Arthritis

Thyroid problems

Lower urinary tract symptoms

Stroke

Blood clotting problems [4]

Common Psychological Causes/Risk Factors of ED:

The brain also has a role in proper erectile functioning, starting with feelings of sexual excitement. Many psychological concerns that can interfere with sexual feelings or cause/worsen erectile dysfunction include:

Personal or professional stress or stress stemming from cultural, social, or religious conflicts

Constant worry about sex performance

Anxiety, depression, or other mental health issues.

Relationship conflicts because of poor communication between the partners, stress, or other concerns. [4]

Signs of Erectile Dysfunction To Watch Out for:

The symptoms of erectile dysfunction can’t be missed out. Generally, it includes persistent:

Difficulty in getting or keeping hard enough for sex: problems in achieving erections or staying that way for long until the woman gets satisfied

Lower sexual drive

Lack of self-esteem

Guilt or embarrassed feeling of not being able to sexually satisfy a partner

It’s been a while without the experience of morning wood: All men usually experience night or morning erection which doesn’t mean that they feel aroused. It happens due to the release of less noradrenaline- a hormone that prevents non-stop erection of the penis during sleep. It’s a good indication of having healthy blood flow to the penis if the morning woods are frequent but not so otherwise. It could mean that anything impeding the morning wood might eventually cause erectile dysfunction.

No thoughts about sex as much as there used to be: Testosterone is the male sex hormone associated with sexual drive. Low testosterone can be a culprit of erectile dysfunction. The signs of low testosterone and ED include lack of sexy thoughts, trouble in muscle building or developing a gut, and mood changes or fatigue. [1,4]

Treatment Options For Erectile Dysfunction

The highly customized, safe, and effective medical treatments for erectile dysfunction include:

Prescribed oral medications to cause erections in men when sexually transmitted

Use of vacuum devices to draw and collect blood in the penis for erection

Use of penile injections to directly administer medications into the side of the penis for creating an erection or use of intraurethral suppositories to deliver medication

Hormonal replacement therapy to restore the deficient levels of testosterone

Penile implants are placed surgically inside the penis to mimic the erection process (in case all other treatments fail) [2]

Prevention of Erectile Dysfunction

By making small and impactful lifestyle changes, men can prevent or resolve ongoing ED. The healthy measures to improve erectile dysfunction include:

Stress management

Regular exercising

No smoking

Eating a balanced diet

No excessive alcohol intake or use of recreational drugs

Maintaining a healthy body weight

Reviewing medications with the doctor and knowing about medications that have a chance of causing ED

Managing serious health conditions

Couple counseling if there is trouble in communication between sex partners.[2]
